Associate Director Matthew Walker was interviewed by TRT World on 15 April 2021 regarding the sanctions that the Biden administration has imposed on Russia. The sanctions follow allegations by the US of “harmful foreign activities ranging from election interference and cyber warfare”.

Marking the second round of sanctions imposed by Biden since his presidency, Matthew discusses the United States’ rhetoric around Russia and cyber warfare post- election and how their stance on Russia and their appetite for sanctions has been influenced by this.  How these sanctions will evolve, he says, will largely depend on the domestic situation in the US.

Matthew is a Russian disputes specialist, having worked on some the largest disputes to come out of the region including a high-profile fraud investigation involving senior bureaucrats and politicians in Russia and the Baltic States.
